Organic Natural Rooibos
About Organic Natural Rooibos
This organic Rooibos tea reveals a naturally sweet flavour with a subtle aftertaste of honeysuckle and a gentle, nutty note that pleasantly lingers on the palate. When brewed, the tea displays a deep and much loved mahogany red.
About Rooibos
Rooibos tea originates from South Africa and is made from the leaves of the Aspalathus Linearis plant. The tea is typically characterised by a mild, sweet flavour with hints of vanilla or nutty undertones. Unlike traditional tea, which comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant, Rooibos tea contains no caffeine and has only low levels of tannins. The leaves are finely chopped, ground, and fermented in heaps. Once dried in the African sun, they transform from a vibrant green to a deep mahogany red. Rooibos tea is rich in Vitamin C and can be enjoyed hot or cold.
Cultivation
Rooibos is predominantly cultivated in the Cederberg mountains of the Western Cape region in South Africa. This unique area provides the ideal climate conditions for the growth of the Aspalathus Linearis plant. The combination of sandy soils and winter rains contributes to the exceptional quality of Rooibos tea. The plants for organic Rooibos are grown sustainably without the use of pesticides. After harvesting, the leaves are cut and traditionally fermented in the sun, producing the characteristic red colour and mild flavour.
Effects
Rooibos tea is valued for its potential health benefits and pleasant flavour profile. The antioxidants, such as aspalathin and quercetin, can help to neutralise free radicals and exhibit anti-inflammatory effects. Studies suggest that Rooibos may have positive effects on the cardiovascular system, potentially lowering blood pressure and supporting blood vessel health.
How to Enjoy
With its mild aroma and subtle sweetness, Rooibos tea is perfect for both pure enjoyment and creative preparations at any time of day. Enjoy it hot with a hint of honey or lemon to accentuate its sweet notes, or brew it as a refreshing iced tea on warm days. Rooibos tea pairs particularly well with light snacks such as butter biscuits, vanilla pudding, or mild cheese. Its gentle sweetness also makes it a delightful base for tea cocktails or a perfect complement to fruity desserts like a fresh fruit salad.
