About Huoshan Black Snail
Our Huoshan Black Snail is a rare, hand-crafted black tea from the forested hills of Anhui, China. It offers a smooth, earthy body with flavours of sweet potato and caramel, and a lingering sweetness reminiscent of baked goods. The snail-shaped leaves are carefully hand-rolled, overseen by tea master Mr Zhang in Huoshan County, creating a tea that balances warmth, depth, and elegance.
About
Huoshan is a mountainous area in western Anhui Province, China, known for its ancient forests of pine, cypress, and bamboo, and the wildlife that inhabits them. Tea cultivation here dates back centuries, with artisans nurturing tea gardens between forests and streams at around 800 metres altitude. The unique microclimate of cool mists and mineral-rich soil gives the tea its distinctive smoothness and aromatic depth.
Cultivation
This tea is pan-fired and handmade in small batches. Mr Zhang, the tea master, follows traditional techniques passed down through generations. The leaves are plucked in April, when spring growth is most tender, then dried and rolled into their characteristic spiral shape, resembling small snails. This careful process preserves the tea’s natural sweetness while adding layers of caramelised aroma from the pan-firing.
How to Enjoy
Best enjoyed hot and without milk, letting its earthy sweetness and silky texture come through.
